Provide 7:1 Value to Promotion

Keep in mind the 7:1 value to marketing rule and it will keep you out of trouble.

When I recommend seeding blogs, message boards, chat rooms, and other user generated content sites around your specific cause, I am not talking about endless shameless promotion. Rather, you will be enriching the content of the conversation.

For every one marketing message that may seem like promotion to the other users, add seven enriching content statements that take the blog or whatever Web site to a deeper understanding about your cause.

This is one of the most cost effective ways to find like-minded people who are already engaged with the idea of your cause. Your organization is one of the thought leaders in your catagory. Seize these opportunities to direct the conversation toward your nonprofit.
